A training workshop on “Identification of Fresh and Processed sea cucumbers of Sri Lanka” organized by National Research Council and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura with the collaboration of National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA)
and Sri Lanka Association for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (SLAFAR) was successfully held at NARA auditorium on 28th October 2016.
Around 100 government officials including Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Police, Department of Coast Guard , Sri Lanka Custom, Sri Lanka Standard Institute (SLSI), Export Development Board (EDB), Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DFAR), National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA), National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) and Academics from different Universities (University of Jaffna, University of Ruhuna and Ocean University) were trained on “how to identify fresh and processed sea cucumbers”.resource persons of this workshop were;

- P.A.D. Ajith Kumara, Senior Scientist, Inland Aquaculture Resources Division, NARA; Executive Committee Member of SLAFAR
- Ganesh Nishanthan, Postgraduate Student, Department of Zoology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura
A booklet titled as “Fresh and Processed Sea Cucumbers of Sri Lanka – Identification Guide (ISBN 978-955-0263-07-3)” was launched parallel to this workshop.
